The traditional publishers, including B2B have another problem as well. Companies such as banks, supermarkets and others are becoming publishers to. They’re actively recruiting journalists and editors to produce that content for them — in a journalistic fashion.

They also offer much better remuneration packages and often better working conditions and are actively growing that side of their businesses.

So traditional publishers are not only faced with companies offering content as a give away to draw customers and to build loyalty, but they’re taking their staff as well. Yet I continue to see, especially in B2B, the same tired old business models of cutting costs and jacking up the subscription price. That’s simply not sustainable anymore, but I think the management of these firms lack the imagination to do anything else.
